Once in a while we feel like Marshall Jefferson and want some "house, music, all-night-long", so thought we'd check out Fill Yer Boots nights down in Brixton, and have a chat with the organisers at the same time.

The latest of Fill Yer Boots' bi-monthly event saw Berlin-based Hunee take the reigns, with Brussel's own San Soda and London's Thick As Thieves in support. Hunee and San Soda treat the crowd to an impromptu back-to-back which conjures up the atmosphere of Fill Yer Boots. They simply supply great line-ups and provide a fantastic party vibe by whatever means required, Leisureware even being instructed by security at the 5am to “kill the CDJs!”.
But it's the friendly crowd that really creates the vibe of the night. As San Soda puts it: "the hardcore and knowledgeable crowd stay to the bitter end".
I caught up with the organisers, Leisureware and Will Byles for a brief chat:
Yo guys! Why don’t you introduce yourselves by telling us one dark secret you know about each other?
Leisureware: Byles has one leg shorter than the other. He dances in a circle.
Will Byles: Will (Leisureware) has to look in the mirror when applying deodorant... Also, all his socks are identical.
Why did you guys start running the FYB nights? Surely you can’t be bored of what London has to offer?
Leisureware: Anything they can do, we can do better!
WB: Truth. It's also about getting to meet the DJs and producers who we’ve got major respect for.
You’ve had some up-and-coming names play your events. George Fitzgerald played some time ago and since then he’s been on The Boiler Room and has a Resident Advisor mix. Are there any DJs you have your eye on for big things?
Leisureware: One lot we’ve got our eye on is Casino Times. Their track That’s The Truth has been on repeat all summer.
WB: I really like Brey. We’re both really into Kyle Hall too.
What amazing things do your parties offer that others don’t?
Leisureware: Considered, quality, uncluttered line-ups.
WB: We don’t pack too many DJs into our line-ups. Too often I’ll go to a night to see a particular DJ –then they only play for 45 minutes! I want to introduce a ‘2 hour minimum’ policy at FYB.
Rewind twenty years. You can choose any ‘selectah’ from anywhere in the world from the heyday of house (88-91). Who and why?
Leisureware: Masters At Work, without a doubt. Their stuff still sends people wild.
Any crazy stories from your past events?
Leisureware: When Wbeeza played, things really kicked off. I spent the night batting low-flying beverages away from his setup!
WB: Yep - the Wbeeza show was mad. He asked us to get Hennessey for his rider – neither Will nor I knew what it was.
We run a weekly Dancefloor Bombs section on the site. What killers would you drop this week?
Leisureware: Kyle Hall’s remix of Motor City Drum Ensemble’s L.O.V.E.
Motor City Drum Ensemble- L.O.V.E. - Kyle Hall Remix by !K7 Records
WB: Gerry Read is killing it!
