A Hedonist's Guide to Art

When I first heard about the launch of a book entitled A Hedonist's Guide to Art, my immediate thought was, as those of you know me will not be surprised to hear, “Why the hell did they not ask me to contribute?” I mean, I spend every day of my life drinking as heavily as I can in the capital's art galleries, I know my way around a tray of canapés and can churn out half-baked art criticism the morning after the Private View before. Oh well, apparently these days that's just not enough...

Last night the book in question, A Hedonist's Guide to Art, launched in the Hix bar at Selfridges, with the likes of Polly Morgan, Nancy Durrant, Nathan Rosenthal and Mark Hix all in attendance. I alas was absent, preferring instead the generous opulence of Charles Saatchi at 2 Cornwall Terrace.

Anyway, the book itself sounds wicked. Providing insiders' insights into the strange old world of the contemporary art scene are a host of big-name critics, artists, curators, gallerists and general gaddabouts – the likes of Will Self, Martin Creed, Gilbert & George, Matt Collishaw, Polly Morgan, and one of my personal heroes, Anthony Haden-Guest. I met him at Trolley Gallery a while back for the amazing ManiFesten art/dinner party, and he certainly didn't disappoint. Nor did that whole fantastic evening to be honest. But anyone wanting to know the full story is going to have to give me a book deal...
