Canary Wharf Film Festival

11 August, 2009
by: Tom Jeffreys

The wonderful Canary Wharf Film Festival returns this September for the third time, bringing with it a host of the most exciting short films produced within the UK and around the world. There’s award-winning shorts from major festivals like Cannes and Sundance, a focus on Serbian cinema, all manner of other films, the Big Film Quiz, a photographic competition, archival documentaries and, of course the Golden Canary Awards Show to finish the whole thing off in style.

From 3rd – 7th September, four venues across Docklands are playing host to a busy programme of screenings and events. Taking place at Cineworld West India Quay and Museum of London Docklands are short films divided into four distinct strands.

Mix: UK consists of 14 UK-produced short films that cover a whole manner of different genres, styles and subject matter.

Mix: International comprises 11 short films from across the world, covering everything from an animation about Vietnamese refugees to an exploration of gender roles in Islamic society.

Focus: Serbia highlights the abundance of contemporary film talent emerging from Serbia right now.

Showcase features 6 short films, all of which won awards at major film festivals like Cannes and Sundance in 2008.

Over at Marriott West India Quay there's a Big Film Quiz on the Thursday evening, which promises a strong chance of both singing AND dancing - should be pretty cool! Then the whole festival finishes with the wonderful Golden Canary Awards Show at East Wintergarden. Not only do you get to see who's won what, but there's some rather tasty drinks on offer courtesy of the kind folks at Courvoisier.

Spoonfed have teamed up with the Canary Wharf Film Festival to offer you the chance of winning tickets to some of the events. Click here to win a pair of tickets to the Canary Wharf Film Festival.
