Canary Wharf Film Festival - Spoonfed Recommends

24 August, 2009
by: Tom Jeffreys

This year, the programme for the Canary Wharf Film Festival is bigger and better than ever. With so much to do and so many different films, it might be tricky for time-strapped folks to know the best things to check out. It might be, were it not for Spoonfed – gosh we're helpful! Below are our highlights for CWFF 09.

Films

A Film About Poo
Directed by Emily Howells and Anne Wilkins, this is quite literally a film about poo – sounds really rather bizarre. If you're super lucky maybe Alexander Brener will turn up. (Mix: UK)

Hairytale
CWFF scoops the World Premiere of this fascinating documentary telling of a hairdresser-turned-inventor by the name of Ronn, who makes products out of human hair. Hmmm… (Mix: UK)

Thorns and Silk

Thorns and Silk (Dir. Paulina Tervo)

Thorns and Silk
Women defy Islamic gender stereotypes over four separate stories from the West Bank. An intriguing exploration of a highly-charged topic. (Mix: International)

Next Floor
This Canadian short was a winner at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival for its combination of the absurd and the grotesque. This is a perfect example of a simple idea that is told in an overly elaborate style - a visual feast! (Showcase)

The Br(e)aking Point
An examination of the powerlessness of train drivers when they know they are about to crash but can do nothing about it. This award-winning short tells of Milenko Dzever whose train crashed, killing 23 people. (Focus: Serbia)
