A belting electro soundtrack mixed by Jodie Harsh builds a sense of night-time anticipation at the Andrew Majtenyi Autumn/Winter 2010 catwalk show at London Fashion Week.

Power and confidence eminate from a battalion of chic predominantly grey-clad girls. Hair is massive – blown up big and complex. This is a statement of intent: grey may hint at something dull or downtrodden but this is a collection full of optimism, power and a dash of humour.

Texture is clearly an important factor in Majtenyi's designs and the pared-down palette accentuates an array of subtly contrasting materials. Pleats, jersey, puffed sleeves, semi-transaprent material, and heavy wools combine to intriguing effect. Softness meets structure as gentle draping collides with some strict tailoring.

If this all sounds very serious and grown-up, Majtenyi introduces an element of fun in the closing stages with a series of pieces featuring an entertaining, youthful '40s-inspired print of be-parasolled dog-walking ladies. It's a neat, light touch on which to finish.
