by: Tom Jeffreys
Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week to come. Tom Jeffreys selects his top three exhibitions.

Thursday 3rd May
The Customer is Always Wrong @ The Residence
As part of current exhibition of border-straddling artiness, entitled Home Office of the Fan Fiction Empire, the Residence is hosting a one-night-only special performance by contemporary artist Bill Aitchison. After subjecting himself to the citizenship test of Southern China, Aitchison presents a performance piece that explores ideas around citizenship, translation and the occasional absurdity of legal and bureaucratic processes.
From Thursday 3rd May
Catlin Art Prize @ Londonewcastle Project Space
The £5,000 Catlin Art Prize was launched to reward and encourage the next generation of contemporary artists. Unlike bigger awards like, say, the Turner Prize, the Catlin champions genuinely unknown artists, generally those who have just graduated from art school. The whole thing is organised by curator, gallerist and writer Justin Hammond, so the shortlisted artists are likely to reflect his personal taste, which is uniformly excellent.
From Friday 4th May
Tainted Love @ Transition
A group show exploring dark desires and all-consuming loves at Transition Gallery this May. Curated by contemporary artist and undisputed Queen of Twitter, Corinna Spencer, Tainted Love includes work across a range of media by the likes of Alice Anderson, Cathy Lomax, Paul Kindersley and Mark Scott-Wood. Expect evocative figurative painting to feature particularly strongly.
