Editor's Choice - Exhibitions

25 March, 2011
by: Tom Jeffreys

Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week to come. Tom Jeffreys selects his top three exhibitions.

The Pedestrians

From Friday 1st April
The Pedestrians @ South London Gallery
Weird. A fusion of live art, installation, sculpture, video and music all jumbled up together to transform the main gallery space at South London Gallery into a kind of wacky film set. Filled with all manner of bits and bobs (cinema flats, mirrors, scaffolding and a treadmill) this basically sounds totally nuts. In a good way, I reckon.

Saturday 2nd April
Dirt Banquet @ Crossness Pumping Station
As part of the Wellcome Collection's Dirt Season maverick sciencey folk Guerilla Science and experimental foodie types Bompas & Parr are holding a dinner in the former Victorian sewage pumping station at Crossness. As well as lots of strange food, there's also something called a 'brown note' at the end of the meal – a sound of such specific frequency that apparently it causes humans to lose control of their bowels. Mmmmm scrumptious bowel movements.

Sunday 4th April
Eat With Art @ Mile End Art Pavilion
As part of the Tower Hamlets Spring Open Exhibition, Latitudinal Cuisine have teamed up with the Open organisers to present a Sunday lunch for 200 guests, all dining together at, apparently, "the longest table you have ever seen". Each guest must each bring a dish (and some drink) that represents their cultural background – I'm be the one with Negronis and fried chicken.
