by: Tom Jeffreys
Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week to come. Tom Jeffreys selects his top three exhibitions.

From Wednesday 7th December
The Mystery of Appearance @ Haunch of Venison
This winter sees Haunch of Venison take a fresh look at a group of ten artists and the influential works they produced in the second half of the twentieth century. Among others, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, David Hockney and Frank Auerbach established the framework for the continuation of figurative painting. Covering both their works and their interconnected lives, Mystery of Appearance promises to be a fascinating show.
From Friday 9th December
I fell in love with a conceptual artist... @ The Knave
Artist/comedian Miriam Elia is likely to ruffle a couple of feathers this month. The exhibition – curated by Sarah Maple – revisits Elia's relationship with conceptual artist Martin Creed, who won the Turner Prize for an empty room in which the lights went on and off every now and again. The show includes a text piece written in the style of those 'real life' confessionals in women's weekly magazines – it's hilarious (and a darned site more interesting than most of Creed's works).
From Saturday 10th December
Through the Peckham Glass @ various Peckham venues
After the window-smashing antic of the London riots only a few months ago, Peckham Space is showing trust in the community by exhibiting five newly commissioned artists in shop windows throughout the area. Expect a sensitive but imaginative response to the ideosyncracies of Peckham from Paul Gallagher, Rachael House, Matthew McGuiness, John Ryan and Adam Walker.
