'In my day, lad... sorry what was I saying?' Old people get their own playground in Hyde Park.

People sometimes ask us about our reader demographic and, sadly from my point of view at least, it rarely includes the over-60s. I love old people. Their tweed and their cords and their grey hair and those slightly heinous views they have that you let them get away with because, hey, they're old: pensioners have basically got it sussed. They also tend to dress better than young people: you can't really argue that double-breasted blazer, mustard cords, prohibitively expensive loafers and a zimmer frame isn't the chicest look in town. Can you?
Anyway, good news for the health-conscious old folk out there as a new playground for pensioners has just opened in Hyde Park. With six pieces of snazzy but simple to use Danish equipment designed for relaxed and leisurely exercise, the new playground aims to give the more mature among us a place to let off steam. Although the playground has been designed specifically for pensioners, no adults will actually be turned away. But there are notices up warning away under-15s.
The project cost a total of £50,000, aided by a £40,000 grant from Westminster City Council. Madeline Elsdon, a member of Knightsbridge Association and the brains behind the concept told The Times, “People can come and have fun and socialise at the same time. We wanted to do something that led the way. Every park has a children’s playground. But there are few facilities for adults and very few for older adults. We hope in the future that every park will have a playground for older people.”
So do we Madeline, so do we. Now where did I put my glasses?
