Stuckism, Poetry and Wedding Cakes - Editor's Choice, Exhibitions
15 April, 2011
by: Tom Jeffreys
Every Friday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week to come. Tom Jeffreys selects his top three exhibitions.

From Tuesday 19th April
The Enemies of Art @ Lauderdale House
The Stuckists take over Lauderdale House this April and May with an exhibition of work by like-minded artists from Prague, the UK and elsewhere. Stuckist art is characterised by figurative painting and a vigorous opposition to the current conceptual hegemony. These guys continue to polarise the contemporary art world, eliciting pretty extreme responses on both sides. I'm still undecided (as ever), but their arguments are certainly compelling.
From Wednesday 20th April
Art on Poetry @ Saison Poetry Library
While they were based on Redchurch Street, Kaleid Editions – the artists' books gallery – became one of my favourite places in all of London town, and now they're collaborating with the Southbank Centre for four months' worth of exhibitions entitled Art on Poetry. As part of the Festival of Britain, the project sees Kaleid enlist a series of interesting and innovative contemporary artists to respond to the works in the Saison Poetry Library, and it all kicks off on Wednesday!
From Friday 22nd April
Let Them Eat Cake @ Wellington Arch
An edible history of royal gooey goodness from William the Conqueror to William Wales. There should be a few nibbles along the way and hopefully some pretty entertaining toppers. There's even the chance to contribute your own well-crafted cake to the exhibition: Mmmmm cake.
