Tom Armstrong ushers you away from the high street this week with his top three Christmas markets.

All week
Duckie @ The Barbican
Duckie, les enfant terribles of theatre, present an indie Christmas market at The Barbican, with 60 stalls selling hand crafted artisan gifts - perfect for those looking to dodge the chain stores and find something that little bit special this year. The market also runs in conjunction with Duckie's anti-shopping satire play 'Copyright Christmas' at the Barbican Theatre.
Friday 16th & Saturday 17th December
Once Upon a Wintertime @ Hackney Downs Studios
Yes, there will be street food, there will be cutting edge art, there will be film and shopping, there will even be a medieval street scene and a huge Christmas banquet. This is the ultimate mini-festival pop-up market. Eat yourself into a stupor, shop for stocking fillers, collectables, festive trinkets and more, or kick back with a cocktail. Did we also mention there's a huge roller disco with a vintage dress-up box, make-up salons and themed bars?
Entrance to the market without a ticket for the rest of the shenanigans is £5.
Sunday 18th December
The Secret Emporium @ Village Underground
As far as Christmas Markets go, this one looks pretty damn awesome. From the people behind the Secret Garden Party comes The Secret Emporium, with independent fashion designers, milliners, jewellery designers, ceramists and more setting up stalls inside the cavernous Village Underground. A no-brainer for those after chic, unique Christmas pressies.
There's also Christmassy snacks, festive cheer, music, eccentrics and performance. A delight.
