DJ Playlist: Alan Braxe

The French electro don puts a Euro in our jukebox.

Alan Braxe is an undeniable hero of French electronic music. Even in the unlikely event that you've not heard his name, you've definitely heard one of his tunes: together with Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter he produced the monumental 'Music Sounds Better With You' as Stardust, which became one of the biggest dance crossover hits of the decade. As well as his huge chart success, Braxe became one of the most respected remixers and producers in his field, working with the likes of Justice, Royksopp and Test Icicles throughout the 00s.

On the 23rd March, Braxe joins house legend Robert Owens and rising talent Voyeur at the Queen of Hoxton's 4th birthday celebrations, and in preparation we had the Frenchman dig through his collection and come up with a personal playlist for us.

Last track you listened to this morning
This morning I received the promo CD's of my next release, which is out now as a free download on Scion AV. It’s entitled the Moments In Time EP and it consists of four original tracks plus loads of great remixes! I picked up the CD with its beautiful artwork and just tried to imagine that I am an average listener, not involved in the project at all. Then I played the CD in my car, which for me is probably the best place to forget about everything. I listened to the tracks trying to be objective about what I was listening to. I am quite happy with the result so today is going to be a good day!

The track that changed how you thought about dance music
New Order - Blue Monday, an early take on electro disco, expressing the same feeling as a classic disco record, a mix of melancholy and energy but in a different kind of way. A very simple and effective musical set up and arrangements. Just a drum machine, a couple of synth sounds a few FX + of course a great vocal.

Your happy song
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd. Loved it since I was a young kid. When I was nine it made me so happy and still does now. When I listen to it in the morning and when the sun is shining I feel like everything is possible and the world is mine.

A guilty pleasure
Watching movies about pandemic viruses destroying mankind and eating Nutella at the same time. It's my personal guilty pleasure number 1. I don't like to share it, just me, the movie, and the Nutella.

A track you've never heard played out but wish you had
Highway to Hell - AC/DC. Under certain circumstances it could work well in a club. The drum pattern is not that far from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and the production is just a bit more heavy.

Track you want played at your funeral
Some classic piece from Bach played on an organ. He was a great specialist in translating the religious feelings to the musical world and vice versa, would be perfect for this type of occasion!

Your entrance theme to your heavyweight title fight
Well I am not specifically good at physical fighting so maybe Anita Ward - Ring My Bell whilst I jump around like a rabbit or a kangaroo. It may help to put the other
fighter in a state of mental confusion.

Queen of Hoxton is 4! takes place on 23rd March.
