Tom Armstrong picks his top three coolest, quirkiest and downright awesomest events from the week ahead.

Tuesday 22nd - 24th May

Chelsea Flower Show @ Royal Hospital Chelsea

Is there anything as quintessentially British as the Chelsea Flower Show? Don't even mention the word summer to me until I've seen Dame Helen Mirren admiring some geraniums and the Queen looking grand in some sort of floral get-up. So good news, it kicks off on Tuesday!

Tuesday 22nd - 24th May
Clerkenwell Design Week @ various venues

Clerkenwell celebrates its third annual design festival next week, with three days of exhibitions, workshops, talks and product launches showcasing the best in furniture and product innovation.

With more architects and designers per square mile than anywhere else in the world, the festival recognises EC1's place as the engine of the UK's design industry. 40+ showrooms open their doors to the public across the three days.

Sunday 27th May
Midcentury Modern @ Lords

More design and homeware fun at the weekend, this time at a cricket ground of all places. On Sunday, Lords hosts Midcentury Modern, a vintage furniture and homeware market featuring a range of stylish British, American and European 20th century designs. And get this, the show coincides with the arrival of no less than 850 pieces of furniture salvaged directly from a '50s ocean liner, which will all be on show. All aboard etc.
