Doctor's Orders at Fabric

Doctor's Orders take up residency at Fabric with a stellar line-up. Tomas Olesen went to see how they fared at their new home in London's biggest club.

Fabric played host to Doctor's Orders on Friday and Spin Doctor brought a selection of some of the finest acts in hip hop to bless the stage in room 1 whilst the drum 'n' bass crew went hard in rooms 2 and 3. Love or loathe Fabric, there's no denying that it's in a league of its own when it comes to clubbing in London, and this move to a new home definitely cements Doctor's Orders position as the UK's premier hip hop night.

The Last Skeptik proved to be in fine fettle and Mr. Thing was all crowd-pleasing party favourites that had me air-rapping at the front. It's been a while since I've seen TY doing his thing and with, the legend that is Big Ted behind him on the decks he was on explosive form. He really is one of the UK's best MCs and if the single 'Emotions' is anything to go by, then his new album, 'Special Kind Of Fool', is going to be essential listening.

Babu was clearly the main reason a lot of people were there and he didn't disappoint. This was really good party hip hop without ever resorting to the obvious or played out. The mixing was flawless, as you'd expect from someone with cutting and scratching skills honed on the international battle scene. A quick bum rush on the backstage door confirmed that he is also one of the nicest men in hip hop. With The Nextmen and Spin Doctor to round things off, the evening becomes hazier, but rest assured, if my poor knees are anything to go by the dancing was furious.

It looks like being a big year for Doctor's Orders, and Spin Doctor spent most of his night with a bemused half grin on his face, as if he couldn't quite believe his luck. But with line-ups like this at venues like Fabric, Plan B, and Scala, luck clearly has nothing to do with it.
